KIRSTY SHARPLES
Kirsty makes sure our software works seamlessly, ensuring tailored, optimal and safe experiences for our clients, leading cross‑functional teams across several domains in bringing features and systems to life. Adopting a “fail fast” approach, Kirsty and her team drive integration on software to get best outcome for our clients.
Kirsty joined JLR in 2017. Moving from logistics to strategy and now to engineering, she has helped shape the new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), the platform underpinning our new Jaguar vehicles. She ensures the various software in our reimagined Jaguar vehicles works efficiently together by testing and fixing issues.
“Everyone thinks charging a car is easy and is the same as plugging in your kettle but there’s so much more to it. You must consider data security and safety. We need to detect faults early to provide quick solutions and ensuring seamless and safe experiences for our clients.”
Tools like Tableau and JIRA help her with a data‑driven approach to spot issues, prioritise fixes, and manage risk so that we can make sure to test out solutions on our vehicles.
“Now we're now getting into the delivery phase of the programme, we can go down to the car and see how it's working and analyse why and what that means, allowing us to make informed decisions on the tweaks we need to make to ensure it works. It’s really cool to see it come to life as our clients will get to experience it. From it being a big database of everything we think we need to do, to it being physically on the car is a fantastic journey. I’m very lucky to be able to see that every day.
“We have lots of interesting technical challenges around how we implement different requirements like how we bring up the battery, because every time we change it, we do more testing to make sure it's safe and appropriate to go into a plant. We need to make sure we can bring up the software slowly as a phased introduction. People might say process is boring, but we must have process because it’s important to ensure safety and accuracy. Everything comes back to our clients – our number one priority is the safety of the drivers and passengers in our vehicles.”
