WE'RE ELECTRIFYING

Stacey, Team Leader

At JLR, the transition to electrification is integral to our Reimagine strategy. But our transformation extends beyond our vehicles; it encompasses a culture shift, continuous training and meticulous detail to ensure we are curating the ultimate electric experience for our clients.

STACEY AYLIFFE

After working on the shop floor building petrol and diesel engines at our Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton for over two years, Stacey was promoted to Team Leader in 2024. She manages seven associates who are preparing to build Electric Drive Units (EDUs) for our next generation electric vehicles.

After requiring surgery on her shoulders from working as a hairdresser for 25 years, Stacey knew a career change was vital. “My surgeon said my right shoulder needed a second operation and that hairdressing led to lots of my issues. I was told I’d need a double shoulder replacement in the next 10 years if I didn’t change something.”

Stacey’s husband worked for JLR at the time. “He said the lines were ergonomically designed to be comfortable to use. He gave me the encouragement to give it a go, and I haven’t looked back since!”

I manage the EDU housing line and ensure associates follow processes safely and correctly, so the units will be the best we can deliver. I ensure consistency and that people are working to JLR’s high standards. It’s been a whirlwind of an experience and a very big learning curve, because it's completely different to anything I've done before. Every bit of my experience has been really positive. JLR really look after your health and wellbeing. They can't do enough for their associates and the people they hire.

Discussing upskilling for JLR’s all‑electric future, Stacey said; “The associates that have transferred to electrification are so keen ‑ everybody's really embracing it. A couple of guys on my team have been at JLR for 10 years and they're so eager to learn new processes and about the EDU. The whole hall has got a very good buzz about it.

“I didn’t see myself in any other role than just being on the line, but I heard about the Team Leader Training programme and had a lot of encouragement from my team to go for it, and I absolutely love my role. If somebody had said to me three years ago that I'd be in the position I‘m in now, I wouldn't have thought it was possible. I got to where I am now because of the efforts of the people that work around me.”

When Stacey joined JLR in 2022, she was the only woman in her team on her zone across the hall. “We’re seeing lots more women joining which is very empowering. It's good to show that women can fulfil higher roles. I almost feel like an imposter because I haven't been here very long, but there are lots of people who have to leave their jobs for one reason or another.

“I loved my job as a hairdresser, and it was very scary coming into somewhere new. I thought I’d really struggle, wouldn't have much of a career going forward and would be stuck doing something I didn't really enjoy. JLR proves that you can go into something completely different at a later point in life and still succeed in it.”
